Wycheproof, 25 March 2022

Wycheproof Shire Hall, VIC, Dja Dja Warrung Country

Wycheproof Shire Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Warrung People.

Halfway between Melbourne and Mildura, Wycheproof is home to about 600 people and is well known as the home of Mt Wycheproof – the world’s smallest registered mountain, which peaks at just 148 metres above sea level.

It will come as no surprise then that the name Wycheproof originates from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘grass on a hill’.

Agriculture is the main industry here but the town also has a thriving business community, with a variety of great little shops lining historic Broadway.

Built in 1920, the Wycheproof Shire Hall is a charming and beautifully maintained old dame whose two storeys of red brick sit in the heart of this tiny but vibrant Mallee community.

Many community members fondly recall the hall’s heydays where the only place to be on a weekend was at one of its many dances or theatre performances.

Festival of Small Halls returns to Wycheproof on Friday, 25 March 2022 with Jack Carty and Charm of Finches.

Opening the show will be local act Wycheproof P-12 College Jazz Ensemble!
