Veteran Hall, QLD, Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi Country

Veteran Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi People.

The Veteran Hall stands on top of a ridge overlooking the beautiful countryside of Veteran, only 10 minutes from the heart of Gympie. With a rich history of gold mining and farming, the Veteran District and its strong pioneering community was born. In 1930, the Veteran Hall was built on land donated by a local farmer and financed by the community, using a local builder, volunteer labour and locally sourced materials. A true community effort! Thanks to that same community effort, the Hall looks fantastic today!

Over 90 years of memories resound in the fabric of the Hall and our community history is preserved here – the sounds of the Hall piano, the bands playing at dances, the gliding of waxed shoes over the dance floor, the laughs at family gatherings and the renowned Veteran Christmas parties, the deliberations at community meetings, the boxing practices, the craft ladies chatter and the sounds and smells of many morning tea fundraisers.

More recently, the sounds of the craft ladies machining and chatter, deliberations at community meetings, laughs at family gatherings and tears at wakes and the sounds of music and dancing all over again.

Veteran Hall welcomes you to keep our history alive. Festival of Small Halls rolls into Veteran on Saturday, 15 October 2022 with Karl S. Williams and Catherine MacLellan.

Opening the show will be local act Georgia Rose!

With a sweet acoustic blend of jazz, country and alternative sounds, Georgia’s unique style reflects her many influences. A Gympie local, Georgia has played at The Gympie Music Muster and is a favourite at many local community events. Georgia is now focused on refining her craft as a songwriter and as a performer to take her music career to the next level.
