Thangool Recreation Reserve, QLD, Gangulu Country

Thangool Recreation Reserve stands on the traditional lands of the Gangulu People.

The Thangool Recreation Reserve clubhouse/hall was originally the Biloela Golf clubhouse. The whole building, complete with function room, bar and cold room, was moved to Thangool in 1983. The Thangool Advancement Association has held monthly meetings at the town School of Arts since 1953. When the building was listed for demolition, the committee made plans to move to the current clubhouse. A few years later, a kitchen was added. Recently, the building was fully air-conditioned. It is now one of the few venues in the Callide Valley with function room, kitchen and bar facilities. The Thangool community celebrated its centenary in 2025!
Thangool means ‘Possum’ in the language of the Gangulu People.

Meals are available from either of the two pubs in town – both located on the highway – you can’t miss them!

Festival of Small Halls returns to Thangool on Friday, 29 May 2026 with
Barleyshakes Duo and Old Man Luedecke (CAN).

Opening the show will be local musician Henry Mauger!
Henry Mauger is a 15-year-old amateur musician and currently a Year 10 student at Biloela State High School. After spending most of his life in Germany, he returned to his hometown of Biloela in July 2025. Throughout his life, Henry has found himself drawn to any kind of music. During the COVID pandemic, he began studying music and how to play the piano. He has now been playing the piano for five years, and a visit from his father two years ago inspired him to start learning how to play the guitar. He visited a High School with musical focus in Germany, where he gained his first experience of playing in ensemble on stage. He now mainly plays and performs soft rock and indie music, but adapts his style to suit different audiences. Henry regularly plays small gigs at private parties and has recently been invited to showcase his talent at the Festival of Small Halls at the end of May. He is looking to continue developing his skills and exploring new styles, with the aim of reaching wider audiences and growing as a performer.
