Tambo

Tambo is located 900 kms north west of Brisbane in Queensland’s Outback and is the oldest town in the Central West, gazetted in 1863. Tambo has a cohesive community with a strong ‘sense of place’ that is reflected in its attractive main street, quality social infrastructure and successful community events and organisations. Tambo Arts Council contributes significantly to the community by bringing touring shows to town for the adults and children. It also provides a wide variety of workshops, e.g. painting, furniture restoration, glass, jewellery, screen printing. Tambo Arts Council also, in collaboration with the Blackall-Tambo Regional Council, operates, an award winning art gallery, the only dedicated art gallery within a 300km radius. The district is noted for its rural cultural heritage and unique landscape, existing attractions in the town builds upon these themes notably the Post and Telegraph Heritage Precinct and Courthouse in Tambo, attractions that are complemented by the natural features of the environment which are presented to visitors with bird watching at the Tambo Dam, an interpretive walk along the Barcoo River, The Coolibah Walk and the self-drive Wilderness Way tour which traverses an area of ruggedly beautiful cliffs and deep gorges.Population: 611
