Tallangatta

Tallangatta was founded in the 1870s, but the current town is a ‘replacement town’ after the original was flooded by an overflow from Lake Hume – part of the mighty Murray River. Set in the midst of farmland, it’s the centre point for visitors triangulating north-eastern Victoria, the snowfields and the Snowy Mountains.

The Waradjeri people call this area Toolanggutta which means ‘an abundance of Currajong trees’
