The Southport Community Centre Hall and Deck

8606 Huon Highway, Southport

The Southport Community Centre, set in its small coastal town, is the hub for community events and gatherings in the far south.  SCC’s outdoor performance stage is so splendid it has its own name, Bruce’s Deck. Named after the late historian Bruce Poulson, who combed the region for its fascinating stories, our deck is hand built by locals and has excellent acoustics. The music will pour over you on its way to the surrounding rolling wooded hills.

Southport sits on the outer edge of Australia. We are flanked to the west by the Tasmanian World Heritage Area and our east is scattered with sheltered quiet bays and beaches from Dover to the fabled Recherche bay. Catch this show as a taster before the Cygnet Folk Festival or take the 90 minute winding drive from Hobart south through the charming Huon Valley until you approach the end of the A6 road. The acoustics from that fine outdoor stage are excellent and we guarantee our DIY community hall is worth the visit.  The Southport Community Centre is one of Huon Valley Council’s community halls and is managed by a volunteer committee.

Festival of Small Halls rolls into Southport on Saturday, January 4th 2020 with Siobhan Miller (SCO) and Jack Carty (AUS).

The performance will be supported by local act Rebecca & James

Rebecca Hancock was the voice of Sydney bands Watusi Now and Paris Pink, and toured internationally as a member of Ed Kuepper’s The Yard Goes On Forever. She has recorded extensively, including two albums of her own with her band The Prison Wives. Rebecca is accompanied by her long time partner, James Vicary.
