Queensland Summer 2014

Woodford Folk Festival in partnership with Mullum Music Festival presents
Mullumbimby to Woodford: Nov – Dec 2014

Del Barber | Festival of Small Halls

Del Barber

Del Barber (Manitoba, Canada)

Del Barber is a highly regarded young Canadian folk, Americana and alt-country singer-songwriter. With his latest album – his fourth to date – ‘Prairieography‘ released earlier this year through True North Records (available in Australia through Planet MGM) the Canadian performer is keenly anticipating his debut tour to Australia. Del grew up in the Canadian Prairies, the landscape as much a part of him as the people he has met along the way. From the fertile Red River Valley to the pastures of the west, straight into the factory floors and slaughter houses of the city, Del sings from the heart about his roots, telling tales from the road, and offering incredibly personal and sincere observations of the world around him. Barber has emerged as one of the leading lights of the next wave of Canada’s proud tradition of songwriting talent. The follow-up to his award-winning albums Love Songs for the Last Twenty (2010) and Headwaters (2012), Prairieography is the travelogue of a wandering troubadour, and the realization that creativity is rarely a bolt of lightning. Good songs are the result of hard work, calloused fingers and learned lessons from a life well lived.

The Mae Trio

The Mae Trio

The Mae Trio (Victoria, Australia)

Maggie Rigby (banjo, ukulele, guitar, marimba and vocals) Elsie Rigby (fiddle, ukulele and vocals) and Anita Hillman (cello, bass and vocals) started playing music together late 2011. All three members of the trio write their own songs and these are tastefully arranged to suit the group’s diverse instrumental talents and love of three part vocal harmony. The Mae Trio were the recipients of the 2013 Folk Alliance Youth Award at the National Folk Festival. Amongst the trio’s influences are bands such as The Wailin’ Jennys, Kate Rusby, Crooked Still and Gillian Welch as well as pasta with tomato sauce, Jane Austen and red wine. The Mae Trio has performed at major Australian festivals including Port Fairy Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival, FolkWorld Fairbridge Festival and the National Celtic Festival, and internationally at Celtic Connections (Scotland) and recently at festivities in Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games.
