Merton Memorial Hall, VIC, Taungurung Country

Merton Memorial Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Taungurung People.
150km just east of north of Melbourne on the Great Victorian Rail Trail, not far from Bonnie Doon, you’ll find the small town of Merton, made famous in recent times as the home of the Kerrigan family in the classic Aussie film, The Castle. According to local folklore Ned Kelly also strutted his stuff here back in the day, raiding the Cobb and Co. Transport system on the Euroa/Mansfield line.
Merton is home to a gracious old country hall, originally built in 1923 as a mechanics institute, but like many small halls renamed as a Memorial Hall in 1945 after the war. Resting in the shade of a gorgeous cherry blossom, Merton Memorial Hall has been the home of Merton Balls, birthday parties, weddings, music festivals and celebrations for most of the last century and was lovingly restored in 2016 to the great acclaim of all serious small hall renovators.
Festival of Small Halls returns to Merton on Thursday, 7 April 2022 with Jack Carty and Charm of Finches.
Opening the show will be local act Daisy McDougall!

Daisy McDougall is 16 years old and lives on a small farm in Merrijig. Her passion for music began in primary school with the violin, which eventually led her to her current instrument of choice, the guitar. Daisy’s biggest fan, her father, has been known to clock up hours listening to Daisy sing, and play violin and guitar. Will he snag the front row seat at Festival of Small Halls?
