Machans Beach, 28 November 2023

Machans Beach Community Hall, QLD, Yirrganydji Country

Machans Beach Community Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Yirrganydji People.

The Machans Beach Community Association (MBCA) was founded in 1949. The MBCA brought the land where the Hall now stands in 1953. With fundraising and local volunteer labour, construction of the Community Hall began in 1956 and was completed in 1960. Since that time, the Community Hall has been administered by volunteer members of the MBCA. The MBCA’s Hall is the centrepoint of the community and therefore is the most valuable asset of the Association.

Over the years there have been numerous maintenance, repairs & upgrades, that have been financed through the fundraising efforts of the Community Association members, non-members and other supporting groups and businesses of Cairns and the surrounding district. Today the Machans Beach Hall caters to a variety of activities and services that directly benefit the Machans Beach and wider Cairns community. The organisation hires out the hall, providing a local venue for public and private functions.

Festival of Small Halls rolls into Machans Beach on Tuesday, 28 November 2023 with Jackie Marshall and Assynt.

Opening the show will be local act Wind and Wood!

Wind and Wood, aka Morag and Trevor Gane, are a flute, vocal and guitar duo performing original songs and covers of our favourite songs. From haunting folk/rock tunes to feet stomping sea shanties we try to bring something for everyone to enjoy.

Trevor is a self- taught guitar player who has performed solo and with a number of bands over his forty something years of playing. Morag is a classical trained flautist using improvisation techniques. Morag has previously played in an orchestra, supported solo performers and played in a folk/rock band.

Wind and Wood have always dreamed of having the opportunity to play together on a regular basis, and they are are now living the dream! Currently playing pubs, clubs and cafes and looking to record our first CD.

A local cafe will be providing a food menu.
