Mulwaree / Gundungurra Country

The renovated St Saviour’s Hall was opened by the Australian Composer – Peter Sculthorpe which lends to its incredibly strong musical links in its current form.  So how perfect that The Festival of Small Halls returns to this location.

The original stone portion of this hall was the pro-cathedral (parish church prior to the cathedral) and is the section of the hall you can see in this picture.  In 1913 a stone extension was constructed and in 1923 a brick toilet block added.  In 2008 the most recent modifications were made.  The roof is tiled following the fires of 1925 and 1961.

St Saviour’s Hall stands on lands traditionally owned by the Mulwaree / Gundungurra people.

The show will open with local musician and Hume Conservatorium scholarship holder, Callum White.

Callum started his musical journey on the Ukulele when he was 10 and then moved on to the mandolin when he saw it being performed at a local festival and instantly fell in love with its sound. At 15 his Pops love of the banjo inspired him to pick it up as well and has never looked back.

His passion for performing and learning these acoustic instruments has resulted in him receiving a Tuition scholarship from Hume Conservatorium for the past 2 years. The scholarship has provided Callum with opportunities to perform at Australia Day Events, the Goulburn Show, the Goulburn Club and more recently the Makers and Designers Markets at the Historic Waterworks Museum.

Callum’s influences are firstly hi Pop, but followed closely by artists such as Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs and David Benedict.
