Spring Tour 2023: Outback Queensland
featuring Shane Pendergast (CAN) and Monique Clare (AUS)

Shane Pendergast has folk music in his blood. Hailing from a long lineage of storytellers and musicians from Prince Edward Island, he is keeping the Maritime folk tradition alive with his honest and insightful compositions. From acclaimed folk festivals to the back rooms of Toronto cafes, Shane has cemented himself as one of Atlantic Canada’s finest young folk troubadours.
His 2021 album ‘Second Wind” won Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the Music PEI Awards, and his live album “The House Before the Bridge” was nominated for a 2023 East Coast Music Award for Roots/Traditional Album of the Year. Shane currently resides in Corran Ban PEI, where he spends his time hosting kitchen parties, drinking tea, and playing chess.

[Shane] might just become the East Coast’s de facto King of Folk – The East
Great songwriter out of Canada with a really fascinating take on Canadian traditions – Folk Alley

Wielding a cello and strikingly crafted vocals, indie folk songwriter Monique Clare embodies the cathartic lyricism of Björk with the rhythmic energy of The Waifs. Driving rhythms collide with heart-tugging harmonies; compelling vocals are laced with intricate cello lines. Her disarmingly candid stage presence is born from years of touring the US, UK, Ireland and Canada with The Maes and playing cello for everyone from Kate Miller-Heidke to Eminem. Featured on ABC’s The Music Show, awarded a Queensland Music Award and described as “a totally laudable and overdue debut” by Listening Through The Lens, her debut album ‘Sight’ was released in 2022 and tracks a journey through trauma and pain to growth and love.
Monique’s intrepid nature has seen her teach cello in war-torn Afghanistan, lead audiences up a dark mountainside for sunrise concerts, and represent Australia at the World Expo in Dubai. 2021 saw her record and release an international co-write with country musician Amanda Rheaume in a project supported by Folk Music Canada and produce collaborations with musicians from around the world as part of Global Music Match.
With a smile as wide as the Cheshire Cat’s, and an audacious tendency to reveal her deepest secrets onstage, her live show is offbeat and mesmerising.
