Sugar, sugar and more sugar! This historic town is set was built in Queensland’s pioneering days in the lush volcanic soil of the Wide Bay Burnett Area, and has been rewarded with years of prodigious fruit, vegetable and sugar cane cropping. The Paragon Theatre – originally Gee’s Hall – has a fascinating history. Opened as ‘refreshment rooms’, originally, the building that the entrepreneurial Gees opened was part of a local entertainment empire that included travelling silent movie shows and, in the original (ish) location, roller skating and dances.
