Canungra School of Arts Hall, QLD, Wangerriburra Country

Canungra School of Arts Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Wangerriburra People.
Built in 1956, this humble hall has been providing a space for dance, music, community and creativity in all shapes and sizes for over 7 decades. The dance floor is crafted of local Crows Ash timber milled from 3 trees in nearby Pine Creek and Lamington. Opening night on July 7th 1956 saw tickets to a ball selling for 10 shillings. 2 local dance orchestras played alternatively through the night to ensure non-stop dancing. During supper, the local caretaker swept the hall with volunteers and laid a sprinkling of fresh ‘pops’ (like sawdust) to ensure the dance floor surface was a fast as possible.
Festival of Small Halls rolls into Canungra on Saturday, 30 September 2023 with Monique Clare and Shane Pendergast.
Opening the show will be local act Annabelle Johnson!

An emerging singer/songwriter from the Scenic Rim, Annabelle Johnson may only be 17, but she will mesmerise you with her beautiful vocals and sweet lyrics. While studying for her year 12 exams and working as a music teacher this year, Annabelle has been writing songs for her debut EP, planning her first solo show and she has been named as one of only eight junior finalists in the Ekka Country Music Showdown for 2023. Annabelle hopes to study songwriting and popular music next year at university.
