Brookfield
Named for the creeks and gullies in the area, this partly rural and partly residential suburb of Brisbane houses a vibrant community. A natural meeting place, the historic Brookfield Showground is at the heart of all that happens in Brookfield while calming surveying the proceedings is a mountain, the name of which no one can decidedly agree. It’s variously been called Mt Elsie, Rocky Knob and currently, Mt Elphinstone.
An old farmhouse serves as the Brookfield Museum and a century and a half old cemetery sits austere across the way. Marking the social calendar are the Moggil Markets, a farmers market held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, along with the annual Brookfield show and the super fancy Brookfield Ball held at the hall. (Population: 4069)
