Bluewater, Qld, Bindal and Wulgurukaba Country

The Bluewater Community Centre stands on the traditional lands of Bindal and Wulgurukaba People
Sitting on azure waters at the gateway to Far North Queensland’s Great Green Way, the sprightly Bluewater Community Centre is almost 30 years old. While the land is owned by the local council, it’s leased back to the Bluewater Community Association for the use and enjoyment of all. It’s a point of pride for this coastal village that this building was built and paid for by locals, who fiercely champion its place as a refuge for all, maintaining that it always has been and always will be available for anyone that wants to use it. It is used for refuge from floods and fires when disaster strikes in the region, and is the place locals can find support, the feelings of hearth and home in times of need.
The Centre is looking particularly colourful in 2021, having recently had a facelift with new renovations – and thankfully given North Queensland’s propensity to gloriously seat-sticking days, is also fully airconditioned.
