Cooktown, 4 July 2024

Cooktown Shire Hall , QLD, Guugu Yimithirr Country

Cooktown Shire Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Guugu Yimithirr People.

Cooktown Shire Hall is significant historically for its close association with public entertainment in Cooktown since the first decade of the 20th century. The heritage listed building is Cooktown’s only surviving public hall, and has been the venue for most of Cooktown’s public entertainments and functions since its construction in 1907. If only the walls of this hall could talk! The hall has hosted many community events including fetes, bush dances, weddings, debutante balls, funerals, movie nights and even a roller derby.

Festival of Small Halls rolls into Cooktown on Thursday, 4 July 2024 with Quote The Raven and Hailey Calvert.

Opening the show will be local act Helix!

Helix and her uke, hailing from Cooktown, bring her unique sound to covers of iconic artists like Florence and the Machine, Missy Higgins, and Amy Winehouse. As a budding songwriter, she draws inspiration from her deep connection with nature and weaves raw, honest stories of life’s ups and downs into her original songs.
