The Festival of Small Halls is based on an idea from Prince Edward Island, Canada, where local communities host roots, traditional and acoustic artists in community halls all over the Island during several weeks of Summer. Famous for Anne of Green Gables, lobster, red fields and a particular kind of hospitality, PEI punches well above its weight where its musicians are concerned. You’ll notice a great synergy between Festival of Small Halls Australia and Festival of Small Halls PEI – Australian artists seem to really love Canadian artists, and vice versa.

The idea has taken off – Ontario has also produced a version of Festival of Small Halls!
Brought to you by the Team Behind Bluesfest, the Festival of Small Halls Ontario is about sharing
exceptional music in small, cherished places. Over the course of three weekends in September, some of Canada’s brightest musical stars share intimate stages with local up-and-comers in carefully selected venues across Eastern Ontario. Inspired by the spirit of hospitality, community, and collaboration that characterizes the Small Halls festivals in PEI and Australia, the Festival of Small Halls Ontario works closely with communities to put on the warmest, most vibrant shows possible. From homemade decorations and community suppers to talented local openers, communities across Eastern Ontario go all out to showcase their hospitality—all for the love of great music in well-loved spaces.
